“Although the participants in the group lost a low-carbohydrate weight more at 12 months, putting more emphasis again during the next 24 months,” says the study, by Marion L. Vetter, MD, RD University of Pennsylvania Hospital in writing “Annals of Internal Medicine. “In contrast, the participants received low-fat group, their weight loss.”

The study group of 132 people, whose average weight of 289 pounds, whether low-carb or low fat diet for years, but the review of their progress over three years. The low-fat diet consisted of dieters getting less than 30% of daily calories from fat, although the diet low-carb diet may require less than 30 grams of fat per day.

The results?
After six months, participants had lost the low-carb more weight than low-fat. But after a year of difference between the groups was minimal.

Even more interesting, (completed two years after the diet) in the three-year marker, the researchers checked in with 40 people from low-carb group and 48 of low-fat group.

Fat participants weighed an average of 9.5 pounds less than when they started the diet, and weighed on the low-carb group but 4.9 pounds less than they had originally. Low-fat group maintained greater weight loss.

“The differences in weight between the two groups most likely to show initial weight loss,” the study stressed. “Participants tend to lose more weight in the next 12 months to be more weight of 36 months.”
